| The champion’s ring |
The Super Bowl ring is the highest award of the National Football League, received by the members of the winning team of the league’s championship game, the famous Super Bowl. Usually made of white or yellow gold and diamonds, the ring is carved with the date of the final, the name and logo of the winning team. The National Football Ring finances 150 rings for each winning team. Depending on the fluctuating prices of gold and diamonds on the market, the cost of each ring can rise up to 5000 dollars. Members of the champion team can offer their rings to whomever they wish, such as team players that have been injured, coaches, officials, or even helpers and assistants. Some teams often offer the ring to former players, as a way of honoring their career. Any extra ring besides the 150 provided will be paid by the team. Known in the US as the “ultimate symbol of champions”, the ring is a mark of recognition of the value of each individual player, as well as of the whole team and coach. It is considered of great value and the symbol of a team’s victory and of the highest level in sports, as well as of noble competition, team coherence, hard working and pure competition. The design that adorns each ring is always unique, since the final result is based on the personal wishes of each ring owner. The diamonds can shape the name or team number of the player or coach, or even of the team. Supporters and collectors can purchase replicas of the rings of the highest quality, which are part of whole series of collectibles and are of course more affordable. It is also a fact that some of these very expensive and highly honorable rings have been sacrificed to the isle of profit. Some have been sold on eBay and have reached prices such as 32000 dollars. On the other side, some great players have donated their rings to charity. Je’Rod Cherry is known for having raffled his ring to help children in Africa and Asia. |
