Made of gold or sometimes platinum, this ring renders official the engagement or wedding of a couple. The wedding ring is part of a very ancient tradition and remains until today a proof of dedication of one to another, while the circular shape symbolizes infinite and eternal love. The habit of wearing the wedding ring on the fourth finger derives from the ancient Romans, who believed that this was the finger where the vein connected to the heart could be found. The name of the ring owner’s significant other is usually engraved in the interior of the ring, next to date of the ceremony. The father of the bride is the one placing the rings on the left annular of the newlyweds. If there is a best man he can be the one to place them. Traditionally, engagement rings are worn on the left annular and wedding rings on the right. Right after the ceremony, it is customary for the bride to receive gifts from groom’s family, which are usually jewelry, symbolizing love and respect towards the wife to be. Today, it is considered proper the family of the bride responds to these gifts by offering presents to the groom, such as jewelry and other symbolic gifts. Immediately after the exchange of presents, the groom places the engagement ring, usually a solitaire, on the finger of the bride. Many choose a diamond, since it is the strongest stone, which symbolizes ideally the “strength” and the “resistance” of the couple’s relationship. Things a couple should be aware of when choosing wedding rings: Wedding rings are the jewelry with the biggest use, since it is worn everyday and usually 24 hours a day. It is often made of softer metals (usually the case when over 18 carats, since the purest the gold, the softest the metal), and can therefore deteriorate easier than other rings. One should avoid hitting then on hard surfaces while working (when stressed or nervous), and remove the ring while performing any difficult handwork (even more, for security reasons). Since experience has proved us that all these are inevitable, it should always be guaranteed that our provider will be able to return the rings to their original aspect (if choosing mat or sand-blasted rings) or their original shine (if choosing shining rings). Loosing a wedding ring should not be considered bad luck… since it is more than easy to recreate them!{gallery}beres{/gallery} |
