The long awaited exhibition “Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels." Has opened its doors a few days ago and will welcome visitors until the 4th of July. The exhibition is taking place in the National Design Museum Cooper-Hewitt, located in New York, and is held in collaboration with the Smithsonian Museum.Over 350 creations from the Van Cleef & Arpels house are exposed, covering its 100 years of existence. The exhibits include mostly jewelry, although visitors will also be able to admire watches, cigarette cases, women purses and other stunning objects. Since its first steps in the beginning of the 20th century and up to today, the jewelry house has remained one of the most important presences in the field of high end jewelry. The 350 exhibits will surely be the ideal resume of the history of jewelry and decorative art thorough the past century. Van Cleef & Arpels has always been a leader in jewelry design and technical innovations, yet managing to remain in contact with the spirit of its epoch. As the curator of the show states, fashion in general and jewelry specifically are the reflection of their epoch and of the changes of every period. The designers of VC&A have expressed the messages of their time in their own artistic way. One of the many examples of these chronological landmarks are the cigarette cases set which include lighters or watches, created in the years when women started smoking. The exhibition is divided in six parts: Innovations, Transformations, Nature as Inspiration, Exoticism, Fashion and Celebrities.
