Gold jewelry does not need any special care. It is nevertheless best to follow these very simple rules:1. Store your gold jewelry in the specific pouch or box which came with it when bought. If there is no such packaging, use a soft woolen cloth and keep each piece separated from the others, in order to avoid any scratches. 2. Beauty products, perfumes and hair styling products contain elements which may react when in contact with metals- alloys (which concerns of course only jewelry with a low percent of gold). Therefore it is better to keep your jewelry far from these types of product and wear them only after using any beauty product. The ideal would be not to use perfume on the area of the body you choose to adorn with gold. 3. Remove your jewelry when doing house chores since detergents and cleaning products can affect the surface of your jewelry and cause a loss of shine. 4. Visit your jeweler once and a while in order for him to give back some shine to your jeweler with professional cleaning. A simple suggestion for a cleaning bath for your jewelry: • Add a mild liquid detergent to a recipient filled with water, preferably alkaline better than neutral. Detergents with an alkaline base give shine to alloys because they remove any trace of acid. • Heat the water until first signs of boiling. • Clean the jewelry with a small brush (or an old toothbrush which will not be reused). • Rinse the soap away with lukewarm water, and dry it perfectly and as gentle as possible. This is a very simple way to restore your jewelry’s shine and eliminate any acids that have been covering them from use. Do not forget that for optimum result a professional jeweler is always the best option. |
